Eero the saviour

The footage of Eero’s attempt is shown in a montage along with that of Pirjo and Viivi. Of the three, he is the only contestant who does not panic at the massive undertaking tasked to him.
He sits next to Pilvi, wondering if he should purposefully get infected by a tick (presumably from the nearby woods), as that would certainly create a close – but, Eero acknowledges, unhealthy – relationship.
He retreats inside, and leans against the cabinet in the study, brooding that “loneliness” and “darkness” are newly acquired friends (as sad piano music plays over his footage).
After temporarily relocating his brooding to the bathroom, Eero goes to the kitchen, where he finds a homemade fruit fly trap made from an old coffee cup. Eero spots three fruit flies inside, and decides that they will be his new friends, and he takes both the trap and a knife out to see Pilvi.
Eero explains that to prove how deep his friendship is with the fruit flies, he will save them from dying. He then uses a knife to cut open the plastic wrap from the top of the coffee cup. As the fruit flies fly away, Eero waves and wishes them well.
Jaakko awards Eero last place, but also awards him a bonus point for claiming that “loneliness is his new friend”. He also claims that he would have awarded a bonus point for following the adage of “if you love something, set it free”, but that he will not in this instance, because he is well aware that Eero did not love the fruit flies.
