Arnaud is overambitious

After reading the task brief, Arnaud leaves the lab and returns with a large kitchen knife.

As he uses the balloon pump to start inflating his first balloon, he muses that an inflated balloon is an inflated balloon regardless of size, and decides that he will therefore just make small balloons.

As with most of the other contestants, Arnaud’s pump breaks very early on in the process, forcing him to resort to blowing up the balloons himself. Arnaud is quick to inflate and tie the balloons, reaching a count of nearly 70 just after the eight minute mark.

By the time he is ready to start popping his balloons, Arnaud has just over 30 seconds remaining on the clock. Despite popping them rapidly, he finishes the process 37 seconds after the time has run out.

In the studio, Louis chides Arnaud for being overambitious, suggesting that when he’d reached 50 balloons he should have realised that he would be well ahead of everyone else.

Arnaud is disqualified from the task for not finishing in time.
