Aaron stages an interspecies love story

Aaron explores the study and picks up a small ornament of a West Highland White Terrier dog, to which he declares his love.

His scene opens with Aaron dressed in a kangaroo onesie, rosy-cheeked, with a backpack. In a high-pitched voice, he announces that it’s his first day at “Animal High School”. All of the seats in the school cafeteria are occupied, except for one next to the dog ornament ‘Westie’, who is wearing a ‘No. 1 Student’ badge.

When Westie (voiced by Tom Cashman, who is also wearing blusher) greets Aaron the Kangaroo, he brushes him off, saying “Not today, Westie. I can’t be bothered answering another nerdy question.”, but Westie welcomes him to sit down anyway. Aaron breaks character to direct Tom to make Westie’s voice cuter.

As the two characters begin eating the same piece of green, stringy food in an homage to the famous scene from Lady and the Tramp, Aaron says “I thought only Aussies like green gum pasta”, but Westie replies “I think it’s cool.” With pasta dangling from his mouth, Aaron declares they must be together, even though the law forbids it—unless they’re in space. Westie confirms that love can float them there.

Aaron demands 20 working monitors for the next scene, filmed in the lab, in which he and Westie lift off in a space ship together, so they can finally be in love.

In the studio, when Tom Gleeson says the Lady and the Tramp moment had felt incomplete, as Aaron just looked like he was flossing mid-scene, Aaron explains that he had to get to the space scene quickly, due to the 20-monitor requirement.

When Concetta asks why Tom Cashman had been wearing blusher, even though he was just voicing the Westie character, Tom reveals that Aaron had insisted on “full cuteness”, even for voice actors.

Aaron earns 3 points.
