Jonnie's daring pipe stunt
Jonnie builds a long tunnel for the egg out of a variety of pipes and guttering, leading from the top of the telephone box, over a couple of barrels with a large rubber duck on top, over the large seated sculpture of Greg, another barrel, and a cement gargoyle, and then out over the top of a bucket full of sand, atop which is a flaming torch.
As Alex drops the egg into the end of the tunnel and blows it with a leaf-blower, Jonnie begins his parallel run to the other end, holding an old-fashioned tennis racquet. He beats the egg to the end of its course by some time, and awaits with his racquet, intending to soften its impact upon its strings.
Unfortunately, it seems that the egg has already cracked during its journey down the pipe, and the situation only worsens as it clips the edge of the flaming torch and then strikes the tennis racquet.
As Jonnie tries to gently bounce it on the racquet and into the eggcup, strings of egg white can be seen spraying out of the cracks.
Although Jonnie’s attempt was genuinely quite daring, and he succeeded in getting the egg to its destination, he is disqualified for breaking the egg, despite Alan Davies’ attempt to place blame for the incident on “the modernity of the tennis racquet”.
