Greg answers the phone

After the doorbell rings for the second time, Greg asks Alex if he can answer the door for him, which Alex declines to do.

When he returns to stand behind the barrier, he is still wearing the kaleidoscopic goggles, rather than using the binoculars provided to him. As he is still trying to ascertain whether he can remove the goggles to use the binoculars, the doorbell rings a third time.

Greg is the only contestant who decides to answer the phone, and thus is given the correct total by the voice on the other end. However, while he is completing the subsequent instructions, he accidentally transposes the final two digits of the answer in his mind, and gives an answer of 1,724, rather than 1,742.

Still, with an answer that's only 18 out from the correct total, he wins the task.
