Petra uses a hat

Petra uses the top part of a hat to block the pipe’s opening, desperately trying to think of any other way she can quickly accomplish the task.

She does not come up with any other ideas, and spends her time quickly but carefully pushing one ball at a time past the hat, as Mark hands them to her.

Petra ends up with 84 balls in the pipe, after her first attempt.

Upon being told to redo the task, Petra immediately says that she intends to use the same technique, and tells Mark to be quicker with handing the balls over to her.

However, due to her strong showing in the first part of the task, Petra is unable to improve her results the second time around.

She ends up with 79 balls in the pipe after her second attempt – a net loss of 5 balls ¬ and so she earns fourth place.
