Phil works backwards
After looking around for more things to add to his domino run, Phil finds a machine that blows up balloons, and immediately decides that he wants balloons inflating to be the finale of his run. He therefore realises that he will need to build his course backwards, in order to accomplish his goal.
He sets up a mostly flat course in the study. His intention is that his line of dominos will push a golf ball down a blocked-off path, where it will hit a tennis ball, which will subsequently roll down a tube and flick the switch for the machine’s power source, inflating the balloons.
Phil’s run goes well until disaster strikes at the very end. Because there is a somewhat large gap between the end of the tube and the switch for the power source, the tennis ball does not directly hit the switch, so the machine’s power does not turn on, and the balloons do not inflate.
Frustrated, Phil hits the switch with his foot, and the balloons inflate and then quickly burst.
Despite Phil’s argument that his course contained more actual dominos than some other contestants’, Louis awards Phil joint last place.
