Sofie doesn’t understand straws

Before introducing the footage of Sofie’s attempt, Mark takes a moment to explain to her how straws work – something with which she should be very familiar already.

Sofie appears to think that she needs to keep her mouth open for the entire task – not just for the drinking part of it – as she constantly keeps her mouth open, which results in whatever she attempts to say to Mark being quite mumbled.

She does manage to ask him for a straw – which soon turns into a handful of straws which she shoves into her mouth. However, she is unable to drink anything through the straws with her mouth wide open.

She then wonders if she would have more success with a spoon. She leaves the lab in search of one, and returns with a ladle. She then drinks directly from the ladle, at one point giving herself a coughing fit, as she chokes on the juice, which causes her to close her mouth.

In despair at her mistaken belief that she is now disqualified from the task for closing her mouth, Sofie ends her attempt.

Instead of being disqualified for closing her mouth, though, she is disqualified for not completing the task.
