Dara completes the task between the notes

Dara clicks his way out of the door of the Taskmaster house, and chooses a policeman’s hat from inside the caravan.

He initially tries to unroll some string, and gets criticised by Alex for not snapping his fingers while doing so. Dara argues that the point of the clicking was that he would do it whenever he didn’t have anything in his hand. He ties the hat to the string and tries to operate the string as a sort of pulley system, which does not work.

While coming up with a better idea, Dara utters the phrase “Wait, wait!” in realisation and Alex, not missing a chance to reference Dara’s unofficial catchphrase from his attempt at the ‘Hold the milk bottles above the microwaves’ task, in series 14, quickly replies with “What?”.

Dara props the hat up on top of Greg’s head with a toilet roll, and then moves away as far as he can while holding onto the length of string he has attached to it. He then manages to whisk away the toilet roll using the string, and have the hat land directly on Greg’s head just in the nick of time, much to his own excitement and surprise. He even claims that it had landed exactly the way Greg would wear the hat.

In the studio, Greg criticises Dara for not clicking out the “jazzy rhythm” he claimed he would be performing throughout the task. Dara attempts to justify his lack of clicking during his attempt by claiming that, much like how jazz is all about the space between the notes, in his case “the task happened between the notes”. This stuns Greg and apparently convinces him to allow Dara’s attempt.

Dara’s distance is given as an impressive nine-and-a-half Rowan Atkinsons (17 metres and 10 centimetres), and he wins the task.
