Mauri eggs David
Immediately after reading the task brief, Mauri muses that the other contestants will definitely break some eggs during the task and that, given the hefty penalty for broken eggs, he wonders if the task could be won by simply leaving the eggs as they are.
David agrees with Mauri that his strategy would at least ensure that he would not earn a negative weight, but suggests that putting some weight on the eggs “would be fun”.
Mauri agrees, and leaves the lab in search of something flat, which turns out to be a suitcase.
Mauri then starts setting the eggs on the table, accidentally cracking one of them as he does.
Annoyed with David’s confirmation that Mauri’s egg has been broken – thus incurring a 10kg penalty – Mauri smashes the egg over David’s head, before promptly apologising for acting on a whim.
After laying the rest of the eggs on the table, Mauri carefully places the suitcase on top of them, making sure its weight is distributed equally across all of them.
Still operating under his belief that the other contestants will break multiple eggs, Mauri then searches for 10kg of items to add to his suitcase, to counteract his penalty.
He finds several volumes of Guiness Book of World Records, and starts stacking them on top of his suitcase one at a time. After the third one, he starts to hear several cracks underneath his suitcase, but he still adds another book before stopping, five minutes before his time is up.
When he insists that his strategy is a winning one, David simply responds that future Mauri will be hearing these words later in the studio. Mauri then wonders if everyone will end up laughing at him.
Mauri places 12.8kg of weight on the eggs. Despite the multiple cracking sounds heard, he ends up breaking just two eggs, giving him a 20kg total penalty, and resulting in a net weight of -7.2kg, which earns him last place.
