Steve’s “Peg Mavis”
Steve brings in a peg doll of the character Mavis Riley/Wilton from the long-running British soap opera Coronation Street, i.e. “Peg Mavis”, noting that he’d received assistance from his friend and longtime creative collaborator Reece Shearsmith, who had drawn her face.
Steve also shares that he’d sent the peg doll to the actor Thelma Barlow (who played Mavis), to seek her approval of ‘Peg’, and had received a signed photo of her in return, with the message “To Steve, good luck! Thelma”.
Steve shares that he’d also taken Peg Mavis to the set of Coronation Street, and a photo of that visit is shown in-studio.
Greg appreciates the effort but says that it’s all “a bit too bum-licky”, suggesting that Steve had gone a bit over-the-top with it all. Nonetheless, Greg awards Steve 5 points on the premise of it being a new series and him “trying to be more upbeat about life”.
After the episode’s release, Steve auctioned the doll for charity, with all proceeds going to Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, Lancashire.
