John’s emotional rollercoaster
John identifies that there is something up with the pole provided by the dome, and decides to inspect it more closely.
Questioning the purpose of all of the pipe lagging the pole is wrapped in, he starts removing some from the handle end, and discovers a trigger hidden beneath. He then removes the boxing glove from the other end of the pole, revealing the claw inside.
With a fully operational grabber claw in hand, John then has no trouble grabbing Patatas from within the pile, and poking her out through the hole in the top of the dome, before running off with her.
In the studio, John admits that whilst he’d been watching everybody else’s attempts, he’d been worrying about whether he’d correctly removed the cat through the hole in the top of the dome. Greg initially confirms that John had done so correctly, before claiming that he does still, unfortunately, have to disqualify him. Greg then quickly admits to the bewildered John that he is just messing with him, and that he is not disqualified.
Alex reveals that despite John’s apparent easy win, the footage of his attempt had been heavily edited. He shares that John was initially suspicious of there being no cat in the dome at all, and had then thought that the pole was merely a distraction, before he’d revealed the grabber within. John had also apparently gone to the shed to look for a hook before returning to complete the task as he’d been shown doing, meaning that his final time was 3 minutes and 24 seconds – just over a minute slower than Steve.
John earns second place and 4 points for his efforts.
