Steve lives to regret his showboating
Steve immediately picks up and then drops his toilet roll on the stage to unravel it quickly. Although he initially removes a fair amount of the paper, the roll does then tear, so he places everything on the floor of the stage, kneels down on top of it, and holds his hands in the air as if someone has a gun pointed at him (as Greg observes, he “looks like the end of Platoon”).
Steve then misinterprets a whistle indicating the end of another contestants’ penalty time as the signal for him to continue, and Alex has to delay him by a further couple of seconds.
He remains down on his knees on the stage for a while longer, and his toilet roll then breaks again, leaving him resembling the victim of an armed robbery yet again.
Eventually, he stands back up and attempts to start threading the unravelled paper through the roll. He appears to complete the rest of the process without incident, leaving a pile of twisted up toilet paper next to his feet, and claiming victory before anyone else.
He then proceeds to showboat while everyone else finishes, announcing that he’s making a picture of the Mona Lisa on the stage with his loose paper. He then agrees to help Sophie find the end of her own roll, instead.
However, after everyone returns to their seats, Alex points out to Greg that only Joanne’s tube has been completely stripped of its paper. Everyone else, including Steve, is disqualified for not having completed the task.
