John creates a health and safety ball-ache

Immediately after reading the task brief, John comments “Well, this is going to be a health and safety ball-ache, isn’t it?”.

In the studio, before the contestants' attempts are shown, and after Greg asks Joanne and Sophie if they have a history of jumping, John suggests that they all “have a little jump”. All of the contestants then proceed to jump as high as they can, on-cue.

At the start of his attempt, he states that a fire will need to be lit. A fire is set inside a metal bucket in the garden, behind which there is a crash mat, a step, and a partially-opened red and yellow umbrella, laid across an oil drum (representing a cannon).

John stands on the step, then leaps forwards onto the crash mat, making it appear as if he has been fired from the cannon and is travelling towards the fire in the foreground. It appears that a smoke machine is also used to add to the illusion that a cannon has fired.

In the studio, after the final image of his dramatic attempt is shown, Joanne is quick to point out “No eyepatch, though”, referring to her own post-laser surgery jilted bride. Sophie, on the other hand, is very impressed with John’s effort, and asks him “You really want this, don’t you?”.

Greg ultimately decides to award John 4 points, along with Joanne and Steve.
