Nick attempts a completely different task
After reading the task brief, Nick has a wander around the house to look for inspiration, but soon returns and admits that it hasn’t helped him at all.
In the studio, before the contestants' attempts are shown, Nick proves that he is surprisingly good at jumping, after John suggests that they all “have a little jump” together.
At the start of his attempt, Nick emerges from the house wearing overalls and a helmet. On the driveway, two pyramids of empty tin cans have been set up, and five car tyres have been lined up parallel to one another, held in place by a wooden plank. As Nick walks along the driveway, his reflection is again edited out of a puddle in the foreground of the shot (in keeping with his choice to dress as a vampire).
Nick climbs inside the car tyres, lying across a wide plank which runs along inside them. Alex then removes the smaller plank which is holding the tyres in place on the slope of the driveway, letting Nick roll towards the pyramids of tin cans. However, Nick does not have enough momentum, and comes to a stop about half a metre away from the first stack, before rolling backwards.
The pair then repeat the process from a higher point on the driveway, with Alex giving Nick a bit of a shove, providing him with sufficient momentum to at least hit the first pyramid stack of tin cans.
In the studio, when Greg challenges Nick to justify how he was at any point in mid-air, during his attempt, Nick describes how items of laundry can be temporarily airborne, during a washing machine cycle. Greg responds with “The way I interpreted it was, I was watching a father of three, rammed into some tyres, being pushed into some baked bean cans.”
After the final image of Nick’s attempt is shown, Greg states that he “arguably couldn’t be less mid-air”, and Alex states that it looks “like a completely different task”. Unsurprisingly, Nick earns just 1 point.
