Steve catches a welly

Steve first tries to pick up the rod and reel in the line, but is then interrupted by soundman Neil, who attaches the sign to his back.

Steve decides to first investigate the string wrapped around Greg’s statue. He tries to untangle the string, but eventually realises that this is making it harder for himself.

He enters the living room and spots the string running through a small maze, with various fake strings poking out of several exits. At this point, he gets a bit startled by Alex’s presence, and asks if he knows all the nooks and crannies around the house.

Steve investigates the string around the bathtub outside, but then spots that the string he’s been following has broken. His initial thought is that perhaps he’s caught a bathtub, as the string he is currently holding leads back to the rod.

Despite the broken string, Steve doesn’t give up easily, and follows the string to every corner of the house and driveway. After some time of not discovering anything attached to another end of the string, he decides that his final answer is that he’s caught the welly in which the fishing rod was originally stood up.

In the studio, Joanne is baffled that she had used the same strategy as Steve, stating that she envisions him as a “MacGyver meets Steven Spielberg” type of person, and yet both of them had ended up just chasing the string. Steve reveals that although he was trying to follow the string back to its source, it hadn’t worked for him, as the string had broken as he’d pulled on it. Alex clarifies that there was just one continuous line of string, which did terminate somewhere.

For incorrectly guessing that he had caught a welly, Steve earns no points.
