Identify the contents of the edible coating
- In this task, the contestants are instructed to identify a number of items which have either been fried in batter, or coated in mashed potato.
- They are permitted to carry out certain actions to a limited number of the items, such as licking, sniffing, eating, biting, squeezing, poking with a finger, stamping on, throwing on the floor, examining with a magnifying glass, or dropping in water.
- A clue to the hidden items is normally provided somewhere in the room, either as a full list hidden inside one of the items, or as labels in a location that the contestant might not think to look.

In this version of the task, the contestants are presented with five plates of mashed potato, and have to identify the two things hidden within each pile. They may only eat one, sniff one, lick one, put their little finger in one, and throw one on the floor. The actual contents of each pile of mash are written on labels on the edge of the table facing the camera.
