Biography

Liza Tarbuck (born on 21 November 1964) is a British actress, and television and radio presenter.

Her big break came in 1987 when she landed a starring role as Pamela in the Granada Television comedy series Watching.

Between 1995 and 1998 she was a regular guest on the TV show Win, Lose or Draw!.

In 1998 she appeared as Angie in the Falklands War drama Tumbledown, and also presented the fashion programme She’s Gotta Have It.

Between 1999 and 2000 she co-presented The Big Breakfast TV show.

Between 2000 and 2001 she hosted the Sky One game show Blockbusters.

In 2001 she took the title role in the show Linda Green, which ran for two series. She also teamed up with her father, the comedian Jimmy Tarbuck, for a celebrity edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?.

In 2002 she was a guest presenter on Have I Got News for You.

In 2003 she hosted Channel 4’s Emmy Award winning panel show Without Prejudice?.

In 2004 she appeared as a fictionalised version of herself in the long-running BBC One comedy French & Saunders, and also hosted a late night edition of Win, Lose or Draw!.

In 2005 she appeared as Mrs Jellyby in the BBC One serial Bleak House, and narrated the last series of the documentary Airport.

In 2006 she appeared in the sitcom Saxondale, and also presented the TV show Britain’s Top Dog.

Between 2006 and 2007 she guest starred on the Ricky Gervais comedy Extras, and appeared in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries as DI Fiona Knight.

In 2007 she provided a voiceover for the animated Doctor Who adventure The Infinite Quest, starred in the ITV1 comedy drama Bonkers, and presented a one-off quiz for Channel Five called I Blame the Spice Girls. She also co-presented the weekday afternoon show on BBC Radio 2 with Mark Radcliffe, whilst Steve Wright was on leave, later appearing as a solo guest host.

In 2008 and 2009 she narrated the Channel 4 dieting show Supersize vs Superskinny, and co-presented the Saturday morning slot on BBC Radio 2 with Martin Freeman, whilst Jonathan Ross was away. She later co-presented the show along with Huey Morgan of Fun Lovin’ Criminals.

In 2009 she starred in her first feature film role as Staff Nurse Tina in The Be All and End All. She also stood in as the presenter of Sarah Kennedy’s popular Dawn Patrol show for a week, and presented a 4 hour show on BBC Radio 2 called Liza Tarbuck’s Christmas.

Between 2009 and 2014 she played Helen Golightly in the BBC radio programme Clare in the Community.

In 2010 she presented Liza and Huey’s Pet Nation alongside Huey Morgan.

Between 2010 and 2016 she intermittently stood in for Simon Mayo on his BBC Radio 2 Drivetime Show.

Since 2012 she has presented her own radio show on BBC Radio 2 on Saturdays.

In 2013 she presented How Tickled I’ve Been, a BBC Radio 2 special celebrating the career of the British comedian Ken Dodd.

In 2015 she visited Mary Berry at her home for a BBC Radio 2 Christmas Eve special.

Between 2016 and 2018 she played the part of Anne Hathaway in the BBC Two comedy series Upstart Crow.

In 2016 she presented Remembering Ronnie Corbett, a tribute to the late comedy star.

In 2017 she appeared on Front Row with Harry Hill, stood in for Michael Ball on his radio show, and was a guest on Radio 4’s Saturday Live. Her book I An Distracted By Everything [sic] was also published in 2017, and was described as ‘an annual for grown-ups’.

In 2018 she was a guest on Great Lives, talking about the Serbian-American scientist Nikola Tesla.

In 2019 she starred in How Europe Stole My Mum, a Channel 4 comedy documentary, presented by comedian Kieran Hodgson, which examined how Brexit divided the UK. She also presented a Christmas day special called Family Rhythms. She presented another Christmas day special in 2020.
