Attempts
Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!
- Alice used the hosepipe to blow out the candle, taping the end of the hosepipe so it would be close to the candle, but she ended up moving closer as she didn't realise she had failed to position the end of the hosepipe correctly. She blew out the candle from 3.5 metres away.
- Asim tied the end of a ball of string around the candle holder, before unravelling the string all the way and yanking the candle off the table, extinguishing the flame. He blew out the candle from 29.5 metres away.
- Liza attempted to blow the candle out by attaching a vacuum cleaner to a drainpipe pointed at it. She then ran away for 15 minutes, through a graveyard, before hiding behind a car. While she was certainly the furthest away from the candle, it never actually went out.
- Russell initially tried to blow out the candle by attaching a vacuum cleaner to a drainpipe, before resorting to blowing through the drainpipe himself, and eventually shouting through it to get the candle to go out. He blew out the candle from 2.86 metres away.
- Tim initially tried to make a long pipe by connecting drinking straws, before using a hosepipe to blow out the candle from 13.8 metres away.
