Task brief

The brief for the task is as follows:

Play in the first annual touchball tournament.

Each contestant will get to play both as ball-toucher and as ball-wanter.

As per international touchball rules, on Tom’s first whistle, the ball-toucher will have 15 seconds to place the ball within the touchball arena.

On Tom’s second whistle, the ball-wanter must try to touch the ball with their fake leg as fast as possible.

The ball-toucher may not touch the ball or the ball-wanter after placing the ball.

The ball-wanter will be blindfolded throughout.

Best touchball player wins.

Tom will now announce the first randomly selected touchball pairing.

Task notes

  • This entire task is based on Rhys Nicholson’s attempt at the ‘Create an original two-player sport’ task, earlier in the episode, but the rules have been adapted to allow it to be played by everyone on the stage.
  • As the task brief is read out, Tom Cashman reveals an exercise ball and a mannequin leg as the equipment to be used during the game, and places them on a table at the left-hand side of the stage.
  • A sort of square boxing ring has been set up on the stage, using stanchions and rope.
  • The contestants are all wearing coloured sun visors and, when they are playing the role of the ball-wanter, have to wear a blindfold.
  • Those contestants who are not playing at any time leave the ring and sit on one of the three stools provided at the right-hand side of the stage.
  • The scoring of the task is based on the ratio between each contestant’s ball-toucher and ball-wanter times during the tournament.
  • With its use of blindfolded seeking within a roped-off ring, this task is somewhat reminiscent of the ‘Service bell helmet tag’ task.
