The task brief is taped to the chest of the robot D.A.V.I.D. in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:
Turn D.A.V.I.D. on before you run out of time.
Your team members have two versions of what together forms D.A.V.I.D.’s manual.
No-one may leave their respective rooms.
Fastest team to turn D.A.V.I.D. on with no mistakes wins.
You have 15 minutes.
Your time starts now.
Task notes
- Robot D.A.V.I.D. is just David wearing a robot costume.
- Each team member is in a different room: one is in the lab with D.A.V.I.D; one is in the dining room; and one is in a small sitting room.
- The contestants all have walkie-talkies to communicate with one another.
- The team-mates who are not in the lab each have half of the D.A.V.I.D. operating manual.
- Just as in English, the phrase ‘turn on’ in Swedish can be interpreted sexually. While no-one takes advantage of this (for obvious reasons), this does feed into some of the comments the contestants make to one another.
- According to one of the show’s producers, this task was inspired by the video game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, and was written before a similar robot appeared in multiple tasks in season 18 of Taskmaster UK.
