Task brief

The task brief is laid on the table in the lab. The brief for the task is as follows:

Get the red water in the vase.

If you spill, you’re disqualified.

You may not leave the lab.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

Also on the table, there is a box of matches, an apparently blank sheet of A4 paper, a large tealight candle, a white plate full of red water (stuck to the table with some kind of gum), and a cylindrical glass vase holding a bouquet of flowers (one of which has a drinking straw attached to its stem).
The most effective solution to the task is a well-known science-based trick, which had previously been used by Katherine Ryan as one of her ‘miracles’ during the first Champion of Champions special.
Written on the apparently blank sheet of paper in invisible ink (which may be revealed by holding the paper over a flame) are the messages ‘Lys på tallerken’ (‘Candle on plate’) and ‘Vase på lys’ (‘Vase on candle’).
Although not shown in the edit, there is presumably also a diagram inside the matchbox showing that the vase should be placed on the centre of the plate, with the lit candle inside.
