Task briefs

The most prominent instructions for the task are printed on a large sign hanging from the wall of the dome. The sealed task envelope is laid on a plinth in the dome. The briefs for the task are as follows:

Written on a sign hanging from the wall of the dome:

Please read and do the task immediately.

Your time started when you walked through the door.

Inside the sealed task envelope:

You must read each of these instructions out and do them immediately.

Stand on one leg and keep standing on one leg.

Put one finger in your ear and keep it there.

Put your other hand on your head and keep it there.

Pull an extreme facial expression and keep that expression on your face.

Your time has started and will end if you move your hands, touch the ground with your foot or change your facial expression.

On the back of the task brief:

Say the most five-letter words.

If anyone uses the same five-letter words as you, five words will be lost from both your totals.

Most five-letter words wins.

You have 20 minutes.

Task notes

  • Also on the plinth with the sealed task brief, there is an apple turnover on a plate.
  • On another plinth in the dome, there is a small plastic cockerel crossing a road.
  • On the sign hanging from the wall of the dome, one each of the letters ‘p’ ‘t’, and ‘o’ have been printed in blue rather than black.
  • All three of the aforementioned clues are meant as hints that the contestants should turn the task brief over to the other side and read what’s written on the back. If they were to do this, they could presumably just complete the objective of the task without having to contort themselves into a stress position, as instructed by the text written inside the sealed envelope.
  • Although the essential objective of this task is the same as in the ‘Say the most unique words‘ task, all of the additional ridiculous rules and requirements make it so complicated that it has been categorised here as original.
