Pamela buys into the Käärijä conspiracy

Pamela’s chosen topic is ‘Applying the lessons taught by Finland’s Eurovision success to predicting midsummer weather’.

[Note: Finland has historically had a poor showing at Eurovision. Since first entering the contest in 1961, they have come dead last 11 times, scoring zero points on three occasions, and earned their first and only win in 2006. The only other time Finland has placed above sixth was with Käärijä’s second place result in 2023.]

In her presentation, Pamela quickly acknowledges that it is just as easy to predict the midsummer weather as it is to predict how well Finland will do in Eurovision (which is to say: not at all), but presents a few theories as to how people believe that they will be able to do so, regardless.

Her visual aid of talking points includes chaos theory, belief, mass hysteria, and deception – all of which culminate in the mind creating reality.

Of these talking points, Pamela is only shown addressing belief (telling yourself something enough times until you believe it) and deception (stating that everyone knows that Käärijä actually won in 2023 [Käärijä did actually win first place in the Eurovision public vote]).

In the studio, Jaakko asks Pamela how much she had to convince herself that her presentation went well. Pamela replies that she did not need much convincing at all, as it was quite evident that her presentation was strong, creative, and based on scientific facts, and – as a friend (Joonas) had recently pointed out in his own presentation – facts that come from one’s own mind are just as correct as those found online.

Jaakko awards Pamela joint third place.
