Joonas the engineer

Joonas looks over the selection of vegetables, and muses that his best chance of success would be to choose the lightest one. When Pilvi questions why, Joonas responds that “the heavier it is, the faster it comes down.” However, it appears that the potato Joonas picks up to test its weight is much lighter than he’d expected, as he then questions whether the vegetables are actually real, or just plastic replicas. Joonas is not shown making his final choice, but he ends up choosing a small radish.

Joonas retreats to the shed to look for things to help him in the task, and picks up a few tubes and a length of guttering. He then takes his bounty to the second-floor balcony and slots them together to create a long chute.

With Pilvi assisting by holding the chute together, Joonas stands on a step-ladder to give it a slight decline, and then drops his radish into it. The radish rolls down the chute and drops out, falling to the ground. Joonas and Pilvi head to the grassy area where the radish had landed, and Joonas eventually spots it.

In the studio, Jaakko asks Joonas to explain the logic behind his construction, as though he were an engineer. Joonas replies that he’d built the chute for the radish to fall from (as in, to create a delay between the radish being dropped and free-falling). He also admits that he is quite proud of his solution.

Joonas’ radish falls for 10 seconds, and he wins the task.
