Emma travels eight… somethings

Emma decides to put the hat on top of the hat she is already wearing.
She states that she’d like to call her mum to help her figure out how long a furlong is, but she thinks he mother would get worried about her, if she made a five-second phone call. Nevertheless, she does call her mum to ask her how long a furlong is, but only gets the response “Um, eight, eight” before her five seconds are up. This turns out to be her second call, so she’d presumably also used the first call to ask her mother the question, and had then called her back after giving her some time to research.
With her third call to her mother, Emma asks her to clarify “Eight what?”, and her mother says she thinks it’s “eight miles” (though what she probably meant to say is that there are eight furlongs in a mile).
Emma is not seen doing any walking; instead, she is next seen asking Alex to stop the clock, as she is convinced that 10 minutes have passed.
In the studio, after Greg notes that Jack was the only person who’d gotten someone to call him back, Emma states that she has a problem with that, since the use of technology, outside of the three phone calls, was prohibited by the task. Alex agrees with her, but then says “then the phone rang, and it was his son, and it might have been an emergency”. When Emma reiterates her thought that “picking up a phone is using tech”, Alex responds that “You always say that”. He then points out that Emma had also looked at her watch, during her attempt, and had claimed that “It’s not technology, it’s decorative”. When she questions whether her watch counts as technology, Jack quickly points out that “it’s not a brussels sprout”.
Alex reveals that Emma had ended her attempt at exactly 11 minutes, and had walked 262 yards, so was just 42 yards over a furlong. She therefore earns 3 points.
