Ben speaks like a pirate throughout
After sitting down and playing the cassette, Ben covers one eye with the eye-patch – or “exhibit A”, as he describes it – before asking Paul “What was the rest?”.
Ben is then seen by the rowboat near the lake, talking like a pirate while asking Paul if he wants to come with him. Ben then rows the pair of them across the lake, before wandering around on the bank on the other side, muttering, in a pirate voice, “Must be an ‘X’ around here somewhere.” As he continues to wander around, he comments, in a pirate accent, “I feel it was foolish not to bring the map”, before adding “I’m starting to get tired of this character.”
Ben eventually spots the shovel standing in a mound of earth, but notes that there is no ‘X’. When Paul asks him if he has seen an ‘X’ anywhere, Ben acknowledges that there was one on the map, before looking straight into the camera and asking “Surely that wasn’t it?”. He then yells “Back in the boat, squire Paul!” and rows them both back over to the other side of the lake.
In the study, Ben presumably listens to the cassette again. He then opens the ink and, still talking like a pirate, says “I should have assumed this would be a trick”. After asking Paul “So I gotta turn you into a pirate?”, Ben spots the ‘U’ on the map. He then crosses out the seven ‘C’s, puts a pirate hat on the ‘U’, circles the ‘X’, and covers the ‘I’ with his hand.
In the studio, Ben explains that he’d thought he had to stay in character as a pirate throughout the task. It’s revealed that he completed the task in 31 minutes and 15 seconds, which earns him 3 points.
