Task briefs

The task brief is recorded on an audio cassette tape, which is ready to play in a cassette player on the table in the study. The brief is also written on the cassette, if the contestants think to eject it from the player. The briefs for the task are as follows:

The task brief, as it sounds recorded on an audio cassette tape:

Cover one eye and turn you into a pirate.

Cross the seven seas and circle where ‘X’ marks the spot.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

The task brief, as written on the audio cassette tape:

Cover one I and turn U into a pirate.

Cross the 7 Cs and circle where X marks the spot.

Fastest wins.

Your time starts now.

Task notes

  • Also on the table, there is a treasure map depicted the grounds of the Taskmaster house, a pirate’s eyepatch, a magnifying glass, an oil lamp, an old-fashioned telescope, a couple of ornamental human skulls, a quill pen and ink pot, and a notebook.
  • Paul is sat on the nearby sofa wearing a tricorne hat with a feather in it.
  • Locations marked with labels on the map (the initial letter of each of which is rendered in the negative space within a red rectangle) include: Cottage (the house itself); Caravan; Calming Field (the lawn); Carparke (the carpark); Cleansing Statione (the bathtub); Unsettling Path (the path through the woods); Creepy Woods (the woods); Isle of Tasktuga (the island in the lake); Creaky Olde Dock (the dock); and The Seven Seas (the lake).
  • An ‘X’ is marked on the map, on the far side of the lake. If the contestants choose to go there, they find a shovel and a small pile of soil suggesting that something has been buried there, but there’s nothing for them to find.
