Task brief
The brief for the task is as follows:
Listen for your note and move forward when you hear it.
When you hear your note, you may move one spot forward.
If you move forward on someone else’s note, you must move two spots back.
Highest score at the end wins.
Task notes
- The contestants are lined up side-by-side on stage, each standing on a circular red ‘TM’-branded marker spot.
- The marker spots are placed at the ‘zero’ spot within a numeric scale on the stage for each contestant, running from ‘-2’ at the rear of the stage, to ‘5’ at the front.
- Paul is stood stage-left with a keyboard synthesiser on a stand, and a music stand on which he has some sheet music.
- Before the game begins, Paul plays a single note for each contestant to listen out for.
- At the start of the game, he cues up a drumbeat on the synthesiser, to play along to.
- During the game, he plays each contestant’s note three times in total, in a seemingly random order, so everyone has the opportunity to move forward to ‘3’ on their scale, if they identify their note correctly each time (it’s possible they were originally planning to run the game for longer, so that someone could make it to ‘5’).
