Attempts

Here's a brief description of the contestants' attempts. Someone's probably working on writing up some additional detail, though!

  • Ardal did not know what a pedometer was and tried various methods including: putting in on the wooden shoe and shaking it; riding a bike; and running around the garden. He recorded 1,084 steps, receiving 2 points.
  • Bridget initially held the pedometer and stepped on the spot, getting confused about why it was not working, causing her to walk weirdly. She then decided to sit on the pedometer and record on her phone the largest number she knew. She recorded 11 trillion gazillion on her phone and recorded 139 steps on the pedometer. It was decided that the number she recorded on her phone whilst sat on the pedometer counted, so she received 5 points.
  • Chris decided to just shake the pedometer, remaining in the dome for a long time in the heat, before realising he could move. After the task, Alex gave him some water. He recorded 2,789 steps, receiving 4 points.
  • Judi didn't know what a pedometer was, ending up putting the pedometer on a remote controlled rat, thinking it would step like a dog would. She recorded 483 steps, receiving 1 point.
  • Sophie tied the pedometer to a drill, which kept snapping off, before attaching it to a bike wheel and spinning the wheel. She recorded 1,209 steps, receiving 3 points.
