Abby confronts her fear of water
Abby plays the cassette and puts the eye-patch on. Looking at the map, she questions if she has to cross the lake, before picking up the map and starting to leave the study.
She then thinks twice about the instruction to circle where ‘X’ marks the spot, and sits back down, explaining to Paul that she wants to double-check that it isn’t a trick. After she uses the quill to circle the ‘X’ on the map, Paul confirms to her she has completed part of the task. However, instead of also completing the rest of the instructions on the map, Abby then picks up the map and leaves the study.
Abby rows herself and Paul across the lake, singing “Crossing the seven seas” as they go. On the other side of the lake, Abby finds the spade stuck into the mound of earth, and digs in the earth for a while before asking Paul if there is anything under there. When he says he doesn’t think so, Abby runs back to the house.
Back in the study, Abby sits at the desk repeating the phrase “Cover one eye and turn you into a pirate” to herself, while wearing the lifejacket and the eye-patch. After removing the cassette from the player, she sees the instructions written clearly on the tape, so carries them out correctly on the map.
In the studio, Abby reveals that a lot of footage of her talking about her fear of water and her inability to swim had been cut out of her attempt, and she also shares that Paul had told her that she didn’t actually have to cross the lake.
It’s revealed that Abby completed the task in 29 minutes and 10 seconds, which earns her 4 points.
