Pirjo makes a modern art volcano

Pirjo’s chosen items include a disco light, a roll of bubble wrap, some masking tape, a small hoop, a coil of wire, some marker pens, some sparklers, a banana, a bottle of sriracha, a box of matches, and what appears to be a can of shaving foam.

Pirjo uses the wire to suspend the hoop from the ceiling of the porch (where she is building her volcano), then drapes bubble wrap over it in what could generously be described as a volcano shape.

To create the smoke, Pirjo sticks a few sparklers into a banana, in preparation to put them inside her volcano, but they do not smoke as much as she had anticipated.

After shoving the disco light underneath the bubble wrap, Pirjo covers her entire creation in sriracha. As she does so, she marvels at how “amazing” her volcano is.

Her attitude quickly changes, however, as Pirjo – suddenly finding the disco lights “unbearable” removes them, leaving her with a pile of sriracha-covered bubble wrap, which she calls “abhorrent” and “the worst thing I’ve ever seen” (and yet, also insisting that it’s Kiasma material).

Still, Pirjo pushes on with the rest of her original idea: she ducks underneath the bubble wrap, yelling that any villagers in the vicinity should run for their lives, as the volcano is about to erupt. The eruption turns out to come in the form of shaving foam, which Pirjo is just barely able to get to crest the top of her volcano.

In the studio, Pirjo admits that she doesn’t understand why she had ordered the disco lights, before suddenly remembering that she’d likely wanted them to try to provide some colour for her otherwise transparent volcano.

As her fellow competitors continue to laugh over the mess that Pirjo’s volcano ultimately became, Joonas exclaims that it looks more like a colostomy bag than a volcano.

Jaakko awards Pirjo last place, but also gives her a bonus point for her monologuing both during and after her volcano construction.
