Julia throws the aubergine at the pencil
Julia initially takes the alternative approach of sticking the pencil into the lawn, point side up, and throwing the aubergine at it. She has several attempts with this technique, missing every time, before giving up and just sticking the pencil into the aubergine while holding both items.
She attempts to fudge the issue of the distance by questioning where such a distance would be measured from, before flinging the aubergine as far away from herself as she can.
When Tom Cashman asks her how far away from the aubergine she was when she stuck the pencil in it, she tries to claim the length of her arm as the distance.
In the studio, Tom Cashman opines that Julia's attempt was "so bad, it makes you ask existential questions like 'How far are you away from something that you are literally holding in your hand?'". He argues that her distance was zero metres, and she therefore earns last place.
