Josh’s egg protects itself

Image of Josh Widdicombe spending most of his allotted 20 minutes constructing a crumpled paper crash mat which ultimately serves no purpose.

Like Roisin, Josh identifies that the egg doesn’t have to stay at the height it reaches. Unlike Roisin, he identifies that some measures will need to be taken to protect the egg on its descent.

Josh’s approach is to construct an egg crash mat on the lawn outside by piling up crumpled paper.

Having spend almost all of his 20 minutes making the pile of paper, he finally throws his egg into the air.

Josh’s egg reaches 6.80m and completely misses his carefully constructed ‘crash mat’, but nevertheless survives its impact with the lawn unscathed.

However, in his panicked state, Josh immediately grabs the egg and throws it back up into the air, presumably with the intention that he could get it to land on the pile of paper, without considering that he might risk losing his successful attempt if the egg should break this time.

Fortunately for Josh, despite only hitting the very edge of his paper crash mat, the egg survives its fall once more, thanks to its naturally evolved design.

Josh places first in the task.
