Mel hates doing things for other people

Mel admits to not being enthused by the part of the task where she might have to make a sandwich for Paul, since she hates doing things for other people.

After failing to return the first ball that he serves to her, she chooses to exchange her paddle for the old tennis racket.

She then successfully returns the next ball, but hits it off the table, so she puts on a jacket as her forfeit.

She does end up making Paul a sandwich at some point, which she is very displeased about.

She eventually gets a pretty good rally going with Paul, but then loses that point and chooses to put on another jacket.

She then wins a point against after 2 minutes and 40 seconds, which earns her second place.
