Sam finds the message
Sam removes the roses from the vase, then asks Alex if he is allowed to drink the plate’s contents and just stand on top of the vase.
He re-reads the task brief, confused as to the purpose of the candle. He then notices the apparently blank piece of paper, and wonders if it has something written on it in invisible ink.
Sam lights the candle and holds the sheet of paper close to the flame. After a while, he is able to make out the word ‘candle’ on the paper, but then he becomes impatient with how long the writing takes to appear. Although he intends to “start doing stuff with the water and the thing” instead, Sam almost immediately returns to trying to reveal the hidden message on the paper, though.
After accidentally setting the paper on fire by holding it too close to the flame, Sam eventually discovers the messages ‘Candle on plate’ and ‘Vase on candle”. Following these instructions, he is amazed to discover that it actually works.
In the studio, Sam is very eager to accept his five points and move on to the next task, though. It is soon revealed why, as Alex shows some additional footage of Sam’s attempt, in which Sam is seen trying to move water by sucking it off of the plate and spitting it into the vase. While doing this, a single drop of water falls from his mouth and onto the table. Sam immediately states that he’s disqualified when this happens, but asks to keep doing the task anyway. He is subsequently seen spilling even more water as he inverts the vase to place it over the candle, forgetting that he’d already spat a mouthful of the fluid into it.
Sam is therefore disqualified.
