Susan sucks on a rose

After lighting the candle for seemingly no reason other than ambiance, Susan explains her plan to Alex: she intends to suck up the water with her mouth, and then spit it into the vase. However, she is hesitant to do so because she is confused as to why a candle is present. In response to her confusion, Alex simply states that everything she needs has been provided.

Out of desperation, Susan lights a match and tosses it onto the plate of water, where it is immediately extinguished (when asked why she’d done this, in the studio, she says it was just an experiment).

As Susan removes the roses from the vase, to make space for her water-spitting strategy, she notices that one of the roses has a drinking straw attached to it.

Abandoning the rest of the roses, Susan uses the drinking straw to suck up water, and then spits it into the vase.

She manages to clear almost the entire contents of the plate in this manner, before asking Alex how she’s meant to move the dregs that can’t be sucked up (exasperated, she asks “Will the bloody candle grow a fucking mouth and start doing it for me?!”).

Unfortunately for Susan, she gets the giggles while sucking up what would likely be her last mouthful of water and, despite her best efforts, cannot contain herself. She spits the water into the vase, but several drops fall from her mouth and onto the table, in the process.

Susan is therefore disqualified.
