Phil suspects a twist

Phil keeps the reel of string on the desk and starts gathering the free end in one of his hands, laughing that he knows he’ll probably have to re-roll the whole thing, after he finishes.

When the reel is halfway empty, Phil pulls an umbrella from the nearby stand and places the reel on the end of it. He continues to unravel the string, repeating his suspicion that he’ll need to re-roll the whole thing again. He becomes more careful about the process, making sure that his unravelled string does not get too knotted up.

When Antoine does not stop the timer, but just gestures to the task brief, Phil turns it over, reads the additional instructions, and laughingly calls Antoine a “real piece of shit”.

Phil recognises that he does not need to roll all of the string back up, so he finds one of the ends of the string, wraps it around the reel several times, severs it with his teeth, and then places it on the cushion.

Phil completes the task in 3 minutes and 57 seconds, and earns joint third place.
