Roisin makes great use of Alex

Image of Alex Horne performing the function of Roisin Conaty’s shower head holder.

Roisin immediately identifies her strategy of using hot water to melt the ice, announcing it with the phrase “Kettle. On.”

Instead of taking the ice block to the bathroom, she brings the hot water from the bathroom to the ice block, by sticking the shower head through the window to rain hot water down upon the ice block, in a wheelbarrow below.

She enlists Alex’s assistance along every step of the process of making the ice block disappear: moving the block into the wheelbarrow; holding the shower head over the wheelbarrow; boiling the kettle; boiling a pot of water; and even removing a stray hair from her mouth while her hands are full.

Back in the studio, Greg questions the fairness of the extent to which Roisin made use of Alex during the task. When she claims that he had only helped her ‘a little bit’, Josh’s high-pitched vocal response leads her to tell him “Down an octave.”, thus coining the title of the episode.

In total, it takes Roisin and Alex 30 minutes and 20 seconds to make the ice block completely disappear, putting her in third place for the task.
