Lucy’s lamp lock

Lucy submits a normal-looking floor lamp.

When turned around, the lamp still looks quite ordinary, until Lucy points out the lamp’s pull cord. The cord, which initially appears to be made out of yarn with plastic beads at the bottom, turns out to be made using wrapped human hair.

Lucy explains that her daughter had recently had her hair wrapped in a similar way, and as Lucy was “untaffling” it, she remembered that she’d had a similar braid when she was younger, only her mother had cut it off instead of unwrapping it. Upon speaking with her mother about this, Lucy had subsequently learned that her mother had kept the hair and turned it into the light switch cord for their downstairs toilet.

Lucy had then rescued her hair braid and repurposed it into a lamp pull cord instead.

Greg admits that he finds Lucy’s prize unsettling, but isn’t quite sure why. He awards Lucy second place.
