Lucy Beaumont
Biography
Lucy Ann Beaumont (born in 1983) is a British actor, writer, and stand-up comedian from Hull.
Before starting her career in comedy, she was an actor, touring with Hull Truck Theatre, York Theatre Royal, and the West Yorkshire Playhouse. She reportedly switched to comedy after initially trying it out in an attempt to conquer her stage fright.
In 2009, she took part in the BBC's Northern Laughs programme, where she was mentored by Jeremy Dyson.
In 2011, she was a finalist on So You Think You're Funny and, in 2012, she won the BBC Radio New Comedy Award.
In 2013, she won the Chortle Award for Best Newcomer, and appeared on BBC Three's Live at the Electric.
Her 2014 debut show at the Edinburgh Festival, We Can Twerk it Out, was nominated for that year's Best Newcomer Award.
Between 2014 and 2018, she co-wrote and starred in the BBC Radio 2 sitcom To Hull and Back, alongside fellow Hull actor Maureen Lipman.
In 2015, she married fellow comedian Jon Richardson, to whom she had been introduced by Roisin Conaty. That same year, she was a guest on the Dave show Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, hosted by Alan Davies.
In 2016, she was a guest on the BBC Two panel show QI and, in 2017, she presented the BBC Two documentary Welcome to Hull – City of Culture 2017.
In 2018, she was the narrator in the BBC documentary Hull's Headscarf Heroes, about Lillian Bilocca and the 1968 Triple Trawler Disaster.
In 2018 and 2019, she was a regular guest on the Dave panel show Jon Richardson: Ultimate Worrier, hosted by her husband.
In 2019, she returned to the Edinburgh Festival with her comedy show Space Mam, which she then also toured around the UK.
In 2019, she was the team captain for the University of Hull's team on BBC Two's Christmas University Challenge. The same year, she also made her first appearance on 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, alongside her husband, plus Sean Lock and Bob Mortimer.
Since 2020, she has co-written and starred in the documentary-style sitcom series Meet the Richardsons, which features herself and Jon Richardson playing exaggerated versions of themselves.
In 2021, she received a commission from Channel 4 for the comedy series Hullraisers. The same year, she released her first book, Drinking Custard: Diary Of A Confused Mum, which details her struggles with her pregnancy and motherhood.
In 2022, she appeared in an episode of the revival series of The Weakest Link, hosted by Romesh Ranganathan.
In 2023, she was a guest on episodes of The Last Leg and Have I Got News For You.
