Susan’s 'disgusting' dessert
Susan brings in a pint of (non-branded) vanilla ice cream, and has Alex offer it to Greg. When Greg asks if the ice cream has bad ingredients in it, and Susan is hesitant to answer, he states that it had better not contain human breast milk (although notably, he has already eaten a spoonful by this point).
Susan instructs Greg to turn the pint around, to check the ingredients; listed among them is castoreum, a mixture of the anal secretions and urine of beavers.
Susan explains that castoreum is normally listed under the ‘natural ingredients’ category on labels, to disguise what it actually is [Note: castoreum is mostly used in perfumes these days. While it is still classified as food-safe, the vast majority of vanilla-flavoured foods either use the actual bean, or a synthetic vanillin.].
Greg awards Susan third place.
