Maria builds with ‘S’

Maria chooses the letter ‘S’, and orders scissors, duct tape (‘silvtejp’), a shoe box, tissue paper (‘silkpaper’), and string.

She reinforces the bottom of her shoe box with duct tape, and makes small holes on the top of each side, running string through each of them. She then lines her shoe box with tissue paper, and nestles the egg inside, before tying it all down with the string.

Her boat remains seaworthy, and is slow but steady for the majority of the race. She inadvertently helps Johan’s boat during the race, as one of the strings gets caught in the buckle of Johan’s slipper, towing it along in what the commentator calls an “umbilical cord strategy”.

Near the finish line, as the current slows down, Maria’s smaller boat is actually able to overtake Behrouz’s boat, and ultimately wins the egg race.

Maria wins the task.
