Phil’s junk table, redux
Phil resubmits the wooden laptop table that he’d previously brought in as a submission for ‘The most bizarre wooden thing’ prize task in episode 10.
Before Louis and the rest of the contestants can voice their complaints that Phil has recycled yet another prize (only four of Phil’s 11 prizes so far have not been reused), Phil says that he has been contacted during the week by people complaining about his lack of effort in prize tasks. He claims that several people had demanded that he bring the table back in as a prize, and auction it off on the show to the audience members, with the proceeds to benefit the Véro & Louis Foundation (Louis and his wife Véro’s autism charity). After making his announcement, he challenges Louis to have the nerve to award him no points for such a charitable act.
When Louis questions if the table is actually ‘burstable’, Phil counters that as its maker, he knows exactly how to make it ‘burst’ apart with only two strikes [Note: The French word used in the task brief is ‘éclatable’. ‘Éclat’ can mean ‘burst’, but it can also mean ‘splinter’. It’s likely Phil is making a play on words here – the same as Marie-Lyne does – i.e. ‘splinter table’, so it does technically fit the task brief].
Louis takes the charity bait, and awards Phil second place.
During the end credits of the episode, Antoine informs viewers via voice-over that Phil had kept his promise, and that the auction of his table resulted in a C$250 donation to the Véro & Louis Foundation.
