Behrouz builds an expandable system

After asking David if he’s just meant to throw the pen at the eggplant from behind the rope (to which David replies that it’s an option), Behrouz throws the pen. It bounces off of the eggplant and gets stuck in one of the gazebo’s wooden floorboards. David seems surprised that the pen is sharp enough to penetrate the wood, and Behrouz runs to the shed in search of tools.

He starts taping together two long poles, soon adding a third. As he does, David attempts to get into his head by laying out a dilemma: one of Behrouz’s competitors may have opted to tape four poles together, and if Behrouz chooses to meet that challenge, what if that competitor went with five poles?

As Behrouz finishes his construction, David asks whether he will choose to spear the eggplant horizontally or vertically, then asks if Behrouz knows the difference between the two. Behrouz answers that “one’s straight ahead, the other’s to the side”.

At some point, Behrouz apparently realises that the eggplant can be moved, so he brings it to the shed, and duct-tapes it horizontally to the workbench.

Behrouz realises that his pole will likely not hold up on its own, and so fetches two plinths from the house to provide support. He also supplements these aids with a stool and two short sawhorses, which he stacks on top of each other. Placing his supports at equal distances allows Behrouz to make the most of his six-pole construction’s length. The fact that he has the foresight to rest the pen on a small tube right in front of the eggplant allows him to easily spear it on his first attempt.

With almost two minutes left, Behrouz then adds a rake to his construction – supported by two empty containers – and once again spears the eggplant.

With one minute left in his time, David asks if Behrouz will manage a “double rake”. Behrouz retrieves another rake from the shed, and tangles its tines with the tines of the other rake. In his final few seconds, he once again successfully spears the eggplant with his multi-rake contraption.

In the studio, Babben comments that often on Bäst i Test, tape and sticks is the way to go. Behrouz agrees, exclaiming that “if there’s tape, there’s hope” (causing Johan and David to continue their argument about who might have coined that phrase).

Behrouz spears the eggplant from 11.13 metres, and wins the task.
