Johan uses lots of duct tape
Johan initially believes that he is meant to throw the pen into the eggplant from behind the rope. However, after several misses, Johan re-reads the task brief. As he does do, David reminds him that he currently has no results, and suggests that it would maybe be nice to have some sort of result recorded before his time runs out.
Johan insists that he “will spear the eggplant”, thus coining the episode title, before running to the shed to source some tools.
Johan duct-tapes the pen to a long plank of wood, and then duct-tapes the eggplant to the plinth.
Unfortunately for Johan, the strength of his thrusts just causes the eggplant to be pushed off of the plinth, despite multiple sessions of reinforcing it with duct tape.
After one final reinforcement session – at which point the eggplant is just a patch of purple peeking out from under a pile of duct tape on a plinth – Johan successfully spears the eggplant.
When David asks Johan if he can do it from any further away, Johan says that his current distance is his “max”, and he questions why David would want him to go any further when he’s already put in what he believes to be enough effort. David reminds Johan that the winning condition for the task is the longest distance, but Johan insists that he is satisfied.
In the studio, David reveals that Johan still had 10 minutes remaining when he decided to stop.
Johan spears the eggplant from 3.34 metres, and earns third place.
