Steve has a casual chat with his pursuer

As the golf caddy is released from the tent, it drives straight into the back of Steve’s legs.

Steve begins his attempt with a very casual “Hey, it’s good being a man, isn’t it?”, and receives the response “Badger” (yes). He follows up with a conversational “So, reading the news. Do you enjoy that?”, and gets the response “Vulturine guinea fowl” (no).

Alex has to remind Steve to keep stepping forwards, as the duck quacks.

Continuing with his conversational approach, Steve asks the follower “Being operated by another human is tough, right?”, and receives the response “Hairy-eared dwarf lemur” (yes). He follows up with “Are you a glove puppet?” (“Gouldian finch”/no), and “Are you some kind of children’s TV character?” (“Pygmy jerboa”/yes), before Alex has to remind him again to keep stepping forwards.

Becoming more direct with his questioning, Steve asks “Do you have a one-word name?” (“Northern shoveler”/no), before asking “Is it ‘Mr’ something?” (“Rondo dwarf bushbaby”/yes).

Steve moves on to trying to identify the first letter of the follower’s name. It appears that he must have first eliminated all vowels with a question which did not make the edit, and plans to reduce the number of questions by dividing the remaining consonants up into groups, because he is seen asking “Is it ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’, ‘F’, ‘G’, ‘H’?” (“Eurasian lynx”/yes). Narrowing down the group further, he asks “Is it ‘B’, ‘C’?” (“Etruscan shrew”/yes), and then “Is it ‘B’?” (“Slender loris”/yes).

Having identified that the follower’s name begins with ‘Mr B’, he initially guesses “Mr Bojangles” (response not shown), and then “Mr Blobby!” (“Exotic shorthair cat”/yes).

As Steve leaves the field, Blobby detaches from following him and instead barrels straight for Alex, who states “I don’t want him!” and then has to jump out of the way.

In the studio, while explaining how difficult he’d found the task, Steve reveals that he had been under the impression, during at least part of the task, that he wasn’t allowed to ask direct questions to the follower.

Alex reveals that Steve correctly identified Mr Blobby when he was 15 paces away from the duck, and so he earns 3 points for his effort.
