Joanne meets her comedy hero

While reading the task brief, Joanne admits that she has “very little animal experience”, and that she doesn’t know what an amphibian is. In the studio, after Greg asks her about this, she turns the question back on him, and it becomes clear that he isn’t quite sure, either.

Back in the field, as the golf caddy is released from the tent, it almost drives straight into the back of Joanne’s legs, but she runs away from the marker spot as Alex attempts to intercept it.

When introducing Joanne’s attempt in the studio, Alex refers back to a comment she had made at the start of her attempt at the ‘Do the riskiest thing with this egg’ task, in the first episode of the season, when she’d described Mr Blobby as “The best physical comedian of our generation”.

She seems quite anxious at the start of her attempt, flinching and exclaiming “Jesus Christ!” as she hears the duck quack from behind her, and forgetting to step forward a couple of times.

She first asks the follower “Are you a human?”, and receives the response “Kiwi” (no), but doesn’t know what a kiwi is.

Alex has to remind her to keep stepping forwards, as the duck quacks.

Joanne subsequently asks “Are you… food?” (“Glaucous gull”/no), “Are you a famous thing?” (“Badger”/yes), and “Are you the Eiffel Tower, like, something like that?” (“Tawny frogmouth”/no). She then appears confused about what else the follower could possibly be, and follows up with “Can I get inside you?” (“Aardvark”/yes).

Joanne then asks the questions “Have I met you?” and “Have I been in you?”, and receives the single response “Common midwife toad” (unsure). Alex clarifies for her that they do not know if she’s met the follower.

Joanne continues with “Has it been on telly?” (“Olive baboon”/yes), before jumping straight to asking “Are you Mr Blobby?” (“Donkey”/yes). However, she appears confused about what a donkey is, and questions whether it’s an amphibian. She remains standing still while expressing her frustration at how confusing the follower’s replies are.

She then restates the question “Are you Mr Blobby?” and receives the response “Bengal tiger” (yes). Alex helpfully clarifies that the Bengal tiger is a tiger and, after a couple of seconds, Joanne correctly decodes that as being a mammal/affirmative answer, and then exclaims “So you are Mr Blobby. Fuck off!”, before turning round to check and being genuinely overjoyed at the sight of him. She then walks him off to the edge of the field.

In the studio, when Greg follows up on her “Can I get inside you?” question, Joanne explains that she was trying to determine whether the follower was something like a building.

When Alex points out how she’d apparently jumped to asking if it was Mr Blobby from nowhere, she admits that she is genuinely a really big fan of the character, and had tried to buy the Mr Blobby costume, when it was auctioned on eBay.

Alex reveals that Joanne had correctly identified Mr Blobby when she was 26 paces away from the duck. She therefore wins the task and earns 5 points.
