Nick and Steve make some moves
Steve decides to take up position within the dome, leaving Nick to stand on the doormat. After the task brief has been read, Nick asks Steve if he has any physical ailments such as “dodgy knees”. Steve responds that he has a “dodgy body” in general. Because of this, Greg questions Steve, in the studio, about all of the “age-related slams” he’s taken throughout the episode. Steve states that he’d presumed that Nick was simply looking out for him, and Nick confirms this, saying that it was common courtesy and that he would’ve asked anybody the same.
Starting off their attempt, Nick fails to land a bottle flip, then hits ‘Bum’ on the top dartboard, and the boundary between the brown and pink segments on the other board. Alex rules that since the dart landed more in the pink segment, Steve should put his bum on a pink circle. He does so, completing the first move.
After two more failed bottle flips, Nick hits ‘Left Foot’ and ‘yellow’, then ‘Left Hand’ and ‘white’, both of which are very convenient moves for Steve to complete. After another round, Steve is able to move his right elbow to a white circle without any difficulty.
Nick’s next dart hits ‘Right Elbow’ again, so Steve voices his hope that he gets to keep it on a white circle. Unfortunately, Nick’s next dart hits ‘black’, the corresponding circle for which is directly in the middle of the dome. Steve attempts to get his elbow onto the black circle whilst keeping every other body part where they are, but struggles to do so. Alex shows Steve some pity by stating that he’ll be fine as long as any of his bum remains on the pink circle. Steve manages to reposition himself satisfactorily for a few seconds but, after Nick’s next ineffective bottle flip, Steve’s behind leaves the pink circle entirely, ending the sequence of moves.
In the studio, Greg tells Nick that he’d had a gut feeling that he wouldn’t be any good at darts, and Steve suggests that they could’ve gotten much farther if they had switched roles. When Steve asks Nick how he might stretch across the floor of the dome to touch all the necessary circles, Nick suggests that his cape could have helped, as it’s black.
Overall, the “old man and the little boy” (as Alex puts it) completed six moves, compared to the trio’s 43. Nick hopefully suggests that they should be awarded 5 points, but they are instead given a “charitable” 2 points.
