Steve throws rings at Nick

At the start of the task, Joanne suggests that Nick will “be gone in three rings” due to his short stature. Greg agrees that Nick is “a three-ring man”, thus coining the episode title.

As the whistle is blown, Steve takes a few throws before landing one on Nick. He grabs multiple rings at a time, as a time-saving measure, and lands three more rings on target in a row, with a little assistance from Nick on the third. Steve then finds a rhythm and continues to land rings on Nick. With just a few close misses, Steve almost manages to entirely cover Nick, leaving only the tips of his fingers exposed above the tower. Although the team of three do manage to catch up with them, Steve manages to land one final ring on Nick, completely concealing him, and ending the task.

When everyone is asked to return to their seats, Nick attempts to walk without removing any of the rings, appearing to be a scuttling tower of inflatables [note: in the outtakes for this series, Nick is shown being unable to get free of the rings, and ends up being pulled up out of the tower by Greg].

As the group return to their chairs, Alex and Greg make a point of observing how fine a margin the game was won by, and Alex asks Greg if he wants to see some more fine margins. Alex then displays a frame of the footage which reveals that part of Steve’s foot was over the line. When Greg suggests this isn’t conclusive, Alex shows a second and third still, revealing that Steve had stepped over the line multiple times. Greg therefore has to disqualify Steve and Nick, so they earn zero points.
